This workshop took place Tuesday January 10, 2012 at Victoria City HallThis workshop will be of interest to everyone interested in promoting children’s unstructured play. MARK HALDEN is the coordinator of the GLAMIS ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND IN LONDON, ENGLAND, a community playground that enables children and young people to engage in supervised play opportunities for free. This is an award winning playground that has been serving an inner city area of east London for over 40 years. The playground is run by a not-for-profit community association, and its programs and facilities are funded by a wide range of public and private partners.
Mark will cover a range of topics beyond describing the playground, and how it works - relationships with local authorities, issues re liability and insurance, how the playground serves/supports children’s unstructured play, how the playground has been ‘nature-scaped’ and how its Corporate Responsibility program links with local firms.
There will be a brief introduction about the emergence of the Play Movement in the UK, and ample opportunity after the presentation to ask questions.
We would like to thank O2 Landscape Architects for assisting financially with this session (see http://www.o2design.com/) and the City of Victoria for providing the venue.
